Правила чтения: буквосочетания «eigh, igh; ea» перед «d, th»

1. Сочетание букв eigh читается [ei]: eight [eit] – «восемь». Сочетание igh читается [ai]: right [rait] – «правильный».
2. Сочетание букв ea перед d, th в большинстве слов читается [e].

Причастие I (Participle I)

Причастие I (Participle I) образуется при помощи суффикса «-ing», который присоединяется к инфинитиву глагола без «to», например: to read – «читать», reading – «читающий». При образовании причастия I согласная перед «-ing» удваивается, если ей предшествует краткая ударная гласная: sitting, planning.

Причастие I может употребляться в функции определения:

The student reading a book is my friend. – Студент, читающий книгу, мой друг.

Настоящее продолженное время (Present Continuous Tense)

Настоящее продолженное время выражает действие, совершающееся либо в момент речи, либо в более широкий отрезок времени, к которому момент речи относится.

I am reading a book now. – Сейчас я читаю книгу.
I am working at the plant. – Я работаю на заводе.

Время Present Continuous образуется при помощи вспомогательного глагола «to be» – «быть» в настоящем неопределенном времени и причастия I основного глагола.

Относительные местоимения

Относительные местоимения «who, whom, whose» со значениями «который, которого, которому» вводят придаточные определительные предложения. Они употребляются по отношению к одушевленным именам существительным.

The man who is at the table is our teacher of English. – Человек, который находится у стола, наш учитель английского языка.
The man whom I know well is here now. Человек, которого я хорошо знаю, сейчас здесь.
The man whose book I am reading is my teacher. – Человек, книгу которого я читаю, мой учитель.

«Which» – «который» употребляется по отношению к неодушевленным именам существительным.

The toy which is on the table is mine. – Игрушка, которая лежит на столе, моя.

Союз «that» – «что» вводит придаточные дополнительные предложения. Иногда союз «that» опускается.

Текст к уроку 8: «Honesty is the Best Policy»

A man is cutting down a tree near a river. By chance he drops his axe into the river. He sits down and begins to cry. He cannot work now.
Mercury, whose river it is, says, “Why are you crying? I can give you your axe.” And he brings up a golden axe and gives it to the man. But the honest man shakes his head, he doesn’t want to take it, because it is not his. Mercury brings up a silver axe. Again the man doesn’t take it. When Mercury brings up the man’s axe, he takes it, saying that it is his. Mercury likes the man’s honesty and says, “You may take all the axes.” Going home, the man meets his friend and tells him about Mercury. His friend wants to have a golden axe too and he goes to the river. When he is cutting down a tree, he drops his axe into the river. Again Mercury brings up a golden axe and says, “Is this yours?” “Yes”, says the man, “it is mine. Give it to me.” But Mercury does not give him the axe.

Упражнение 1. Прочитайте с правильной интонацией и переведите на русский язык.

By chance he drops his axe into the river. Mercury, whose river it is, says: “Who are you crying?” When Mercury brings up the man’s axe, he takes it saying that it is his. Going home, the man meets his friend and tells him about Mercury.

б) в Present Indefinite или Present Continuous:

1. We (to study) at school. We (to study) English there. Now we (to be) in the classroom, we (to read) an English text. We (not to make) mistakes. 2. We (to speak) Russian at home, but we (to speak) English at the Institute. “You (to speak) Russian now?” “No, we (not to speak) Russian now. We (to speak) English because we (to be) at the English lesson.” 3. He (to go) to the University in the evening. “Where he (to go now)?” “Now he (not to go) to the University. He (to go) to the plant now. He always (to go) to the plant at 9.”

Упражнение 3. Соедините предложения при помощи «who, whom, whose, which», как это показано в образце.

I want to read the book which is on your table.

1. I know the man. The man is in the room. 2. Give me the toy. The toy is under the table. 3. Do you like the woman? The woman is sitting on the sofa and reading a book. 4. Give me the book. The book is on the table. 5. The engineer works at our plant. The engineer wants to study English. 6. I want to speak to the woman. I teach her children. 7. I work in the shop. The shop is the best at the plant. 8. The man is my sister’s teacher. I always see the man at the library.

Упражнение 4. Составьте предложения со следующими словами и словосочетаниями.

near a river; by chance; into; to give the book to; to begin (+инфинитив); all the family; to want (+инфинитив).

Упражнение 5. Переведите на английский язык.

1. Дети любят ходить на реку. 2. Куда вы идете? – Я иду в школу. 3. Я вижу маленькую девочку. Она плачет. 4. Почему ты плачешь? – Я плачу, потому что не знаю, где мой дом. 5. Вытаскивая из реки серебряный топор, Меркурий дает его человеку. 6. Чья это квартира? – Это квартира моей сестры. 7. Курсы, которые я посещаю, работают вечером. 8. Клуб, где я отдыхаю, находится недалеко от завода. 9. Мальчик, читающий книгу, сын моего брата. 10. Вам нравится женщина, которая сидит на диване?
